DJ 21azy: Making music for fun

DJ 21azy aka Kevin Nelson, 20, of Minnesota, started making music when he decided he wanted to dip out of school work. He makes mash-ups in the dorms of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Nelson made making mash-ups sound easy. He said is currently a Public Relations major but a mash-up artist on the side using free software because he is "too cheap" to buy something better he said. DJ 21azy, "too lazy," said he likes to experiment with as many styles and genres as he can. His influences include his friends, Xaphoon Jones, and DJ Abilities (his favorite DJ). He hopes people get excited when they hear his music, and "have a good time and live life," he said. "I don't stress about much, and I think everyone should just relax and have fun."

Some of his favorite artists are Kid Cudi, Atmosphere, OneRepublic, Kings of Leon, Skizzy Mars (listens to him every day),  and Chiddy Bang "because of his awesome samples," Nelson said. His favorite song is "Beverly Hills" by Weezer. He said the song takes him back to his days of growing up.

In the summer, Nelson said he enjoys riding around listening to new music with his friends. Playing the Nintendo 64 game Super Smash Bros. and listening to underground rap, DJ 21azy said he is just having a good time right now. He is currently not signed, but he does plan to develop his music further. He hopes to put out some original tracks in the future. Nelson said he is surprised people have caught on to his work. To his fans: "I appreciate the feedback and I'll keep making music."

We can't wait to hear more by this guy!
